She really is a beauty. I am very proud to be associated with such an amazing project. It is a great feeling to think that our words and experiences will help empower others to make their dreams come alive. Nancy, hats off to all your hard work. You brought everything together into an amazing package. I am looking forward to watching our baby move into the world and touch other’s lives in so many meaningful ways.

Subject: Confession

Okay, I have a confession. All week I’ve been thinking my writing sucks and who am I to publish it. I’ve been feeling scared and nervous and insecure about publishing.

And today, I got your package which talks about that in your book and now I feel relieved that others felt the same way. I can’t wait to read through A Book is Born.

Also, it is wonderful to see how professional your books are. They look terrific! The stock, the covers, you know what you are doing. To hold your product in my hand has gotten me even more excited… it’s like, hey, she really does make books. Now I have the proof!

Thanks again,
- Donna Weiser (signed for the Spring ‘08 release of D-Girl Turns Mom: Leaving Hollywood Behind for the Best Job Ever)

I spent a good long while crying this morning. They were tears of joy, people. A Book is Born arrived, and as I read through it, tears of joy and amazement jumped from my eyes and moistened my cheeks.

You are such amazing women (and Mark - you’re amazing, too!). I am humbled to be in your circle.

Warmly,

I am thankful for…

…having a car to drive to customs to get my books out of hock; for warehouse guys who help load heavy furniture into my car even when they’re not supposed to; for good friends who have enormous teflon shoulders when I come crying down the lane.

Life as an author is tremendous — tremendously exhilerating (“Your book changed my life!”) and tremendously exhausting (“Returns”).

It’s been a week of running errands and spending time in a state of distraction. My dear friend recently said she knows she’s doing too much when she loses the ability to multitask (such as listening to her son tell about his day in kindergarten while boiling a pot of water).

Life is in the half notes, not the sustained vibratto. So I tell myself as I race from one place to the next, juggling more projects than I think I can bear and waiting for the “No” to release from my throat.

Perhaps I should take the advice I gave a harried teacher at my son’s school. She cast me a panicked look when I finally found the word “no” in my vocabulary again.

“You won’t tutor my daughter in English?” she squeaked.

“Ms. Jones,” I relayed in my own patient teacher voice. “When you say ‘no’ to someone, you are saying ‘yes’ to yourself. Remember that the next time you feel overloaded!”

Drowning in Books

I cleaned out my home office today and came across a ton of writing I did just a few years ago. It’s astounding how much I have learned since then. I have so many review books, magazines, newspapers, CD recording of interviews I’ve done. It was like going down memory lane, peeking into old folders and binders, tossing old notes and copies of draft manuscripts. It’s amazing how much blood, sweat and tears I’ve spilled in this very room.

But looking at the shiny book copies that I created sitting on my shelf, I know it has all been worth it.

Birthing a Business and a Book - TWINS!

Nancy Cleary recently notifed me that I’ve have been an official member of the Mom Writer’s Publishing Coop for one year. YAYAY! However, my book is yet to be published! Seems like a long birthing process doesn’t it?

I am Dr. Caron Goode, and my book is The Art & Science of Coaching Parents. I started writing the book at the same time I launched a distance-learning school, Academy for Coaching Parents International, LLC, www.acpi.biz.  At the time of the conception for the book and business, I hadn’t anticipated the amount of effort to build the business infrastructure on the web. The process through time for both projects has been like having twins and nurturing each along their path of growth.

The great news is that the the book’s finishing touches are happening now, and I can submit the manuscript in December. I have had to focus not on the rush in time to completion, but on the enjoyment of writing and making the manuscript stronger. Next time, I would not choose twins. I’d like just one baby at a time!

Has anyone else had the experience of launching twins?  What was your experience like?
